An inspiring tapestry of strength and legacy

Reading this book felt like embarking on a journey across continents, right alongside Iracy and her family. Their story, rooted in Brazil but stretching to England and India, is a testament to resilience in the face of adversity.
The book’s portrayal of the harsh realities faced by indigenous and African slaves in colonized Brazil, and the emergence of the first mixed-race families, is both eye-opening and heart-wrenching. It's a stark reminder of the complexities of our histories and the impact they have on our present.
It’s a personal story of a family, yet it speaks to universal themes of love, loss, and the indomitable female spirit. The narrative is beautifully crafted, with a flow that keeps you engaged from start to finish.
It's a reminder of the challenges we face, the strength we inherit, and the triumphs we can achieve.

Loved this

Absolutely loved this, what a story! The book takes you on a journey with Iracy through love, resilience, poverty, imperialism and triumph. Follow Iracy through the rural landscapes of Brazil, the busy city of Sao Paolo and beyond. Iracy and family are exposed to the realities of the indigenous and African slaves. The story is told through the eyes of Iracy's daughter, what she experiences, feels and how she fights for what is hers! Great story and well told

I am the author of Mother of Honey, a memoir where I share the story of my indigenous Brazilian mother, a woman with an unbreakable spirit who defies the conventions of her time and fights against the injustices of imperialism, poverty, and the patriarchy. Writing my mother’s story was a deeply healing experience for me. To my surprise, the story has touched many hearts so far, getting glowing 5-star reviews. A book club has been formed by some of the readers where they discuss my mother’s journey and focus on their own ancestral trauma.
Ever since I can remember, writing little poems and stories as a child, helped me soothe daunting emotions and experiences. Later in life, this channel opened to me again and I wrote songs, short stories, poems. The pain I felt at my mother’s inevitable departure, shaped The Mother of Honey.
I have been a climate activist even before climate change was in the news. Out of my eco sadness, I wrote ‘Seven Magpies Falling Dead from the Skies’ to be published next year. My eco novel has so far won the Harper Collins/Spread the Word Competition, it has been short listed for the 2023 JOFFE Book Prize and has been granted a place in one of Curtis Brown’s prestigious courses. So, I feel there is a story here that is both a human and a global drama. It is also a beautiful and heart wrenching love story about two young activists from different corners of the world.
I hope and pray that it will touch many hearts and bring awareness to the climate crisis we are in. I feel art can move us to change, to take action and to try and create a better world for our children, and all children.
You may say I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one 😊
